Nutcracker Key West is back! This Christmas spectacular is one of the largest, most elaborate stage productions ever to hit the Florida Keys and a perfect way to ring in the holidays.
Set to the music of Tchaikovsky, this island interpretation of the fabled holiday ballet was written and originally produced by Key West arts patron Joyce Stahl, an accomplished, classically trained dancer who performed with the American Repertory Ballet Theater for 35 years.
With over a dozen international professional dancers and a large cast of local actors and children, this over-the-top production is rich with original Key West tropical imagery and familiar island icons.
Expect to see legions of toy sailors battling the Rooster King and his army of chickens, along with a Sea Star and Swordfish Cavilierî, a flock of snowy egrets, an underwater Kingdom ruled by King Neptune, and yes, even a Conch Shell Nutcracker!
Now produced by Key West’s highly acclaimed Tennessee Williams Theater, the production incorporates elaborate sets and custom-made costumes enhanced with revolutionary fiber-optic and LED lights. Because they are specially crafted to be nearly weightless, the dancers glide across the stage like magic.
This sumptuous theatrical experience opens on Thursday, December 5 and plays through Sunday, December 15 with special matinees on Saturday, December 7 and 14 at 1 pm.
