Islamorada fest Sand CastleMark your calendars: The 34th Annual Florida Keys Island Fest hits Islamorada on Saturday and Sunday March 28th and 29th!

The annual spring fling, which takes place on both days from 10 am – 5 pm, pops up at Islamorada’s beautiful Founders Park. If you’ve never been to this beautiful bayside respite, this is a perfect time to check it out.

The weekend celebration transforms the park and beach area into an outdoor musical, artistic and food emporium. With over 100 juried artists and crafters selling everything from paintings and sculptures, to jewelry, fine crafts, and even driftwood carvings, the outdoor marketplace is packed with unique finds.

Paint the Dolphin Islamorada festOf course, great food is always a festival mainstay, and you can enjoy a diverse lineup of food trucks serving everything from fresh seafood and authentic BBQ to brick oven pizza, smoky grilled chicken wings, and more.

Not to be missed: the highly anticipated Smoked Fish Dip Contest where you can taste and vote for your favorite. In addition to the great shopping, good eats, and groovy live music, you can also take in an old-fashioned All-American Road Vintage Cruisers Car Show showcasing some very cool cars, trucks, and motorcycles. Kids can also enjoy their own beachside fun with painting, sand sculpting, and competing in fun contests beneath kite-filled skies.

boat raceOh, and get this: there’s also a wacky “What Floats Your Boat” Race where homemade “boats” set sail from the beach to see who can stay afloat the longest. It’s a total hoot and always draws a cheering crowd. All of the events take place rain or shine and admission is free.

Catch it all at Founders Park, 87000 Overseas Hwy (MM 87 Bayside) in Islamorada. Info: 305-664-4503; islamoradachamber.com.

Happy Spring!
