Mark your calendars: The 33rd Annual Florida Keys Island Fest hits
Islamorada on Saturday and Sunday, April 5th and 6th. The annual spring fling, which takes place on both days from 10 am – 5 pm, pops up at Islamorada’s beautiful Founders Park. If you’ve never been to this beautiful bayside respite, this is a perfect time to check it out.
During the annual Island Fest celebration, the park and beach area transform into an outdoor musical, artistic, and food emporium with over 100 juried artists and crafters, local food vendors, and terrific live entertainment.
Besides strolling the art show and grooving to live music, you can take in an old-fashioned All-American Road Vintage Cruisers Car Show showcasing some very cool cars, trucks, motorcycles, and rat rods. Kids can also have their own beachside fun with painting, building sand sculptures, and competing in outdoor contests beneath kite-filled skies.
One of the festival’s notable highlights is the wacky “What Floats Your Boat” Race where homemade “boats” set sail from the beach to see who can stay afloat the longest. It’s a total hoot and always draws a cheering crowd. All of the festival’s events take place rain or shine. Admission is free, and there’s on-site parking available for a small $5 donation. BTW: Organizers suggest that you bring lawn chairs and blankets so that you can fully enjoy the beach and music.
You can find Founders Park at 87000 Overseas Hwy (MM 87 Bayside) in Islamorada. Info: 305-664-4503; islamoradachamber.com.
Happy Spring!
