Many artists were initially inspired by the success of Islamorada’s monthly bazaar-style “Walk-Abouts.” Originating in 2011 by local residents Laurie Wickham, Dick Hagood, and Pasta Pantaleo, the artsy gathering along a tiny stretch of road known as “Morada Way” became a springboard for emerging artists, musicians, chefs, and local retailers to showcase their creativity.
Over the years, Morada Way morphed into the heartbeat of Islamorada and is now home to the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District. Located in the heart of the Village, these tranquil few blocks run parallel to the Overseas Hwy (Mile Markers 81 and 82 Oceanside) and are book-ended by the historic Hurricane Monument to the North, and the legendary Green Turtle Inn to the South.
The organization’s landmark Art Walk continues to be held each month and is THE place to be every third Thursday from 6 – 9 pm. The popular event always attracts big crowds who get to enjoy late-night gallery openings, chat with Keys’ artists, shop eclectic boutiques, and listen to great live music.
