You know this small family-owned restaurant must be doing something pretty darn special if they can fire up over 300 steaks a week — and even more during high season! Especially considering their low profile location on tiny Cudjoe Key. Just 22 miles from Key West, and far from the maddening crowds, this under-the-radar jewel serves up incredibly wonderful food. Show-stopping, wood-fired steaks rule the day here, but there’s also a good selection of pork, chicken, and seafood options. Broil’s lineup of high end steaks, which are hand-cut on premises, come from Nebraska and Kansas. The menu includes all of the prime cuts you would expect: Filet Mignon, Sirloin, Ribeye, Porterhouse and T-Bone. For a real treat, order the “Steak Churchill” with Filet Mignonettes over lobster mashed potatoes; or “The Bentley” — an 8 oz Filet Mignon paired with a 10 oz South African Rock Lobster Tail. Bold, Globally-Inspired Dishes
Hawaiian-born Chef David Robbins’ locally sourced menu takes you on a tasty romp with global creations inspired by the flavors of Polynesia, Southeast Asia, Peru, and even Western Europe. His imaginative dishes include light bites like Organic Beet Tartare with mango “yolk”; and Steam Buns with ginger-soy short rib, yuzu pickled cucumbers and gochujang aioli; Main dishes are just as “clean” and flavor-packed. The Eggplant Cannelloni surprises with cashew “ricotta,” heirloom sauce Pomodoro, rooftop basil, and aged balsamic. Robbin’s dry-aged Sustainable Salmon with crispy skin, tomato eggplant ragout, grape must, and rooftop herbs is another winner. If you have a hankering for steak, check out the Hibachi Grilled Grass-Fed Prime Beef with Ginger tamari, k-pop glaze, bok choy, Okinawa purple yams, gochujang aioli, and yuzu pickled cukes. The entire menu here is “Yowza” worthy, but the Korean Fried Chicken, marinated in fermented garlic honey with yuzu pickled watermelon is totally OMG!
