junk in trunk

What began as a simple “clean it out and sell it” concept has quickly taken on a life of its own — part treasure hunt, part neighborhood meet-up, and part “early-morning excuse” to hang out by the water.

“Junk in the Trunk,” Key West’s Community Garage Sale, is coming to Truman Waterfront Park this Saturday, April 18, from 8 am — 1 pm. The lively outdoor shopping extravaganza is part of the larger Conch Republic Days celebration — Key West’s annual tongue-in-cheek “Secession” festival that blends island humor, community events, and a full roster of raucous happenings across the entire island.

At “Junk in the Trunk,” you can expect to browse an eclectic mix of household goods, vintage pieces, collectibles, and unexpected finds — the kind of items that make you stop, look twice, and say “I’LL TAKE IT!” It’s Key West casual, a little unpredictable, and everything a truly great Garage Sale should be.

With breathtaking views of the harbor, this Conch Republic Edition of “Junk in the Trunk” will share space with the Earth Day 5K. Hosted by Key West’s Southernmost Runners Club, the Charity Run attracts more than 200 runners and benefits the Conch Republic Marine Army. Between the hundreds of runners, loads of locals, and tons of Conch Republic Days revelers, it’s slated to be one “Mother” of a Garage Sale!

FYI: If you’ve got stuff to sell, participation is easy. Just arrive the morning of the event, unload your treasures, and presto — you’re in business! If you want to save a few bucks, you can also register in advance—no setup at home. No hassle. Just pull in, set up, and start counting those greenbacks!

For the rest of us, this Community Garage Sale is a fun, laid-back way to spend a Saturday morning — browsing, bargain hunting, and connecting with the community. Oh, and get this: If you have a Resident Sticker, parking is FREE!
