Like all of Peter Vey’s work, “A Key West Diary” celebrates life. Vey’s exhibition, which opens on Saturday, February 13, from 5 – 8 pm at Key West’s Gallery on Greene, is part of the gallery’s roster of celebrated artists.
Vey is one of the most successful artists in the Florida Keys, and he paints places that most other people only dream about. Like Winslow Homer, one of the 19th century’s foremost painters, he’s inspired by the region’s landscapes, waters, and colors. His canvases are as dazzling as his surroundings and chronicle the simple pleasures of tropical living.
Using only an artist’s palette knife, Vey lays down chunky, explosive colors that capture the islands’ bright, washed-out light. His lush vegetation, white sand beaches, breathtaking skies, and local architecture capture the Florida Keys’ essence and have established him as a leader of American tropic painters. You can see dozens of extraordinary works by the renowned artist at The Gallery on Greene, 600 Greene St, Key West. Info 305-294-1669; galleryongreene.com.
