With a name inspired by Broadway’s smash hit musical, “La Cage Aux Folles,” Key West’s new Birdcage Cabaret has the island all aflutter.
Tucked inside the totally revamped Aquaplex, Duval Street’s entertainment epicenter, this lavish new live performance venue is the brainchild of world-renowned female impressionist Christoper Peterson.
A “Master of Impersonations,” Peterson recently teamed up with Aquaplex’s new owners, Mike and John Barrett. The creative trio worked together to transform the former “SideBar” space into a “Big City Club” with a Key West vibe. The new Birdcage Cabaret now boasts a spacious stage framed with swanky theater curtains, a state-of-the-art sound system, intimate cabaret-style seating, and a signature cocktail bar.
Peterson’s new 90-minute, three-act show marquees his notorious impersonations of famous divas like Marilyn Monroe, Bette Midler, Tina Turner, Barbara Streisand, Judy Garland, Cher, Lady GaGa, and other Red Carpet icons.
Backing up Peterson’s live vocals is a rotating cast of “Aquanettes,” the complex’s outrageous group of lip-synching drag queens. You can also expect to see a variety of local performers, female singers, and Lord knows what else: maybe even jugglers or synchronized bowling? When Christopher Peterson is directing a stage production, nothing is off the table, so come prepared for an unforgettable night.

In addition to performing at The Birdcage, the Aquanettes also appear in their own hit show on Monday and Tuesday nights starting at 9 pm and on Wednesday through Sunday with two nightly shows at 7 and 9 pm.
On Sunday nights, our local Drag Kings (women dressed in male Drag) take to the stage for a phenomenal 7:30 pm show. FYI: Stay tuned for even more great live entertainment on Monday and Wednesday nights.
The Birdcage bar is open Sunday through Thursday from 2 pm – 2 am and on Friday and Saturday from 2 pm – 4 am. Enjoy Happy Hour prices and no cover charge when performances aren’t taking place.
