Cabaret meets Gay Pride in high heels when “A Fabulous Evening with Lillian Baxter” returns to Key West on June 1-4. This all new show is a celebration of meeting life’s challenges with rainbows, glitter, and PROUD music!
Presented by Fringe Theater, the whirlwind 70 minute production follows the ups and downs of the almost-famous Lillian Baxter whose career careened from MGM to television to obscurity in the 1970s. Sharing the stage for this colorful romp is Lillian’s faithful accompanist, and favorite ex-husband, Corky Weinstopper.
Created by actor John Vessels and pianist Jay Schwandt, the fictional character of Lillian Baxter — Hollywood’s favorite has-been — is a woman who always believes that “life is coming up roses” or in this case, rainbows. Show tunes? You bet! Gay anthems? Why not! Fabulous costumes? As long as they’re within budget!
Why does Lillian Baxter celebrate Pride? Because she is loved by the gay community. In fact, she is so loved that seven of them married her! So here she is, coming back to the Conch Republic to give us a whole lot of love right back. Buckle in, glitter up, and spend “A Fabulous Evening with Lillian Baxter.”
Presented in conjunction with Key West Pride, “A Fabulous Evening with Lillian Baxter” plays Wednesday, June 1 through Saturday, June 4 at the Little Room Jazz Club, 821 Duval Street. Showtime: 7pm. Tickets are available at fringetheater.org or by calling 305-731-0581. Seating is limited so make sure to purchase your tickets pronto!
