Hughs viewKey West has been a haven for writers ever since Hemingway set down roots here in the 1930s. Over the years, our tiny island has blossomed into a thriving arts community dedicated to nurturing creative minds, hearts, and souls.

At the center of it all is The Studios of Key West which has been a magnet for world-class artists, musicians, performers, authors, and other creatives since 2006.

As a beacon of cultural activity, TSKW boasts a 200 seat professional theater; the island’s largest gallery devoted to contemporary art; nine studios for practicing artists; and two dedicated classrooms, including a cutting-edge digital media lab.

Books & Books, a locally owned, independently minded neighborhood bookstore, also makes its home here.

Over the years, TSKW has hosted Pulitzer prize-winners, world-renowned artists, and musicians and introduced thousands of students to different ways of seeing and working. In season, TSKW’s rollicking concert series features roots-oriented music from folk and blues to world music and jazz. You can also see a lively lineup of dance, performance art and small scale theatrical productions.Hughs view

On top of it all is Hugh’s View, a beautiful rooftop terrace overlooking the Atlantic where concerts, Plein air classes, sunset Happy Hours and other fun events create “aha” moments. But you don’t have to be “creative” to appreciate The Studios of Key West. Our cultural epicenter is a touchstone for everyone who visits.

Find TSKW at 533 Eaton Street. Open Tuesday – Saturday from 10am – 4pm. Info: 305-296-0458; tskw.org.
