We call my mother-in-law “The Diva.” She can root out gorgeous clothes like a pig can snort out truffles. So we weren’t surprised that she went bonkers when we took her to Zero Dress Code (i.e., NO Dress Code) in Islamorada. It takes a lot to impress “The Diva,” but she was truly blown away by the range of terrific things she discovered there. And it’s no wonder.
Owner Susie Gleason is the Queen of Fashionista, and her spiffy boutique overflows with unique and eclectic pieces with boutique brands that she sources from around the world. It takes a lot of work to find items that you won’t see anywhere else, but Susie, like my mother-in-law, “The Diva,” has a nose for that sort of thing. She treks to Italy once or twice a year looking for the newest, most interesting fashions and also imports labels from Spain, France, Australia, and other countries.
Her product lines range from great linens, silks, comfortable cotton, and exquisite apparel to fun accessories like big decorative hats, bedazzled handbags, and one-of-a-kind jewelry. These unique and eclectic items seem to appear daily magically, and “The Diva” dove into all of them several times during her visit with us.
In Susie’s mind, fashion has no rules, and if it does, those rules are meant to be broken. “The Diva” totally agrees. She’s coming down again for the weekend, and Zero Dress Code is at the top of her bucket list. Look for the swanky blonde wearing the over-sized Prada sunglasses and an armful of Susie’s custom picks.
You can find Zero Dress Code at 82205 Overseas Hwy in Islamorada. Info:305-664-0800; zerodresscode.com.
