One of the things we love most about The Florida Keys & Key West is the fact that there are so many wonderful galleries stretching from Key Largo to Key West. SeaSister Island Gallery, a cool new boutique art gallery, recently opened in the heart of Key West’s diversely celebrated 300 Block of Duval Street.
Owner Rachel Garreau has been part of Key West’s cultural fabric for over forty-five years and curates a terrific upscale contemporary visual art collection. Right now, Rachel is showcasing a fantastic group of local and international artists from around the globe.
And that brings us to DESTINATION FLORIDA’s featured cover artist, Thomas Easley, whose painting, “Rooster In A Haystack,” graces our Spring cover.
Rich hues, kinetic energy, and deep, luxurious pigments are the hallmarks of Easley’s paintings. But as much as Easley is an artist of color, texture, and movement, his work is also multi-dimensional and an ongoing exploration of his creative self. Freedom from constraint is what makes Easley’s art especially powerful.
Easley is exhibiting his new works at SeaSister Island Gallery on Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, from 10 am – 7 pm. Another top talent to check out is contemporary artist David Miller, who opens on Saturday, April 20, and Sunday, April 21, from 10 am – 7 pm. Miller’s unique body of work depicts various seascape and beach views from the vantage point of looking through an open window. His intriguing paintings make you feel as if you, too, are in the room sneaking a peek at what’s outside.
Garreau is committed to making art accessible to everyone. Maybe that’s why her space feels more like someone’s living room than some high-brow art gallery. And why she features artwork by both well-known and not-so-well-known artists. Believe it or not, you can score original pieces here for under $100. Now, that’s what we call “the Art of the Deal!”
SeaSister Island Gallery is open daily from 10 am – 7 pm. You can find it at 303 Duval St, Key West. Info 954-232-7248; seasisterislandgallery.com
I visit the SeaSister Island Gallery every time I’m in Key West — and thoroughly enjoy chatting with Rachel Garreau. I’ve admired many fine works of art — and have purchased three terrific pendants/necklaces that have brought me great pleasure. A truly lovely place!
