Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and Santa Claus guide an American Shoal Lighthouse themed U.S. Coast Guard boat and crew through the Key West Historic Seaport harbor Saturday evening during the Schooner Wharf Bar/Absolute Vodka Lighted Boat Parade. Hundreds of spectators lined the pier for the dazzling display of maritime holiday cheer, one of multiple events taking place during the annual Key West Holiday Fest, which is presented in part by the Lodging Association of the Florida Keys & Key West and the Monroe County Tourist Development Council and continues island-wide through December 31. (Photo: Carol Tedesco/KeyWestHolidayFest.com)Lord knows 2020 has been one tough year and a little extra holiday cheer is definitely in order. So what to do? For some, celebrating the holidays means quaint New England Villages, frozen snowmen, the scent of wood-burning stoves, and hot mulled cider. But not here in the Keys and certainly not in Key West, where we pay homage to the holidays uniquely and wonderfully that turns traditional celebrations upside down.

As one of America’s top tropical holiday destinations, Key West is a small town that’s big on holiday cheer. And nothing embraces its holiday spirit more than the annual Holiday Fest celebration.

This free event, which stretches through New Year’s, features nautical light displays, tree-trimming parties, concerts, great shopping, and incredible dining. Don’t be surprised to see Christmas trees created from old wooden lobster pots and sea-worn buoys or drag queens flaunting festive costumes on Duval Street.

If a balmy tropical get-away adorned with twinkling lights, historic inns decked out in their holiday finest, and fun festivities popping up all over the island, this is your place in the sun for the holidays.
